We travelled to Singapore from Riyadh in October 2016 with our 2.5 year old and did a whole mixed bag of beach, city, and theme park break!! It an absolutely beautiful and amazing city and I can’t recommend it enough.
Flight
We flew with Qatar Airways, which are a fab airline. The new and updated airport is amazing, though very big and it can be quite a trek from one side to the other, as well as quite a long taxi from plane to terminal. Unfortunately current situation between Saudi and Qatar there is no such flight at the moment.
City Centre Hotel
When we arrived it was super easy to get an airport taxi. Our first hotel was the Holiday Inn on Orcahrd Road. The hotel was about 30 mins from Changi airport and we got an airport taxi for around $30. We arrived early and the hotel staff were very helpful and allowed us to check in to our room at 10am. The room was a decent size, slightly noisy at night due to other hotel guests. We had 2 twin beds. Wifi is complimentary and the hotel also provide a handy little android phone with a daily allowance of data that you could take out with you to use the GPS/Maps on it.
Breakfast was $20 and is a full international buffet, lots of choice and compared to prices outside the hotel it was very good, super child friendly with lots of fruit choices, cereals yoghurts and pancakes! there was even a little children buffet section.
Swimming pool and hot tub (both outdoor) on the 9th floor were excellent.
Hotel bar downstairs is good with very friendly staff – they even made our son a complimentary babycinno in the morning which he loved!!! Alcohol, as is everywhere in Singapore, was extortionate ($18 a pint!) so its worth waiting until the buy one get one free hour before drinking.
Uber
Taxis were ridiculously expensive if booked/arranged through the hotel. We heeded some advice from a friend and downloaded Uber – BEST ADVICE EVER. I don’t know why we had never used it before. it was amazing, quick, easy to use and about 30% cheaper than your average taxi. what i love about the app is as soon as you go on there you can see where the drivers are, who the are and how far away they are, you then get to track them as they are on the way and you get the car make, reg and colour so you know exactly which vehicle is yours when it arrives. it works purely off GPS so the app tells the driver exactly where you are without you having to break the language barrier to try and explain.
Location
5 minute walk to orchard road shops and restaurants, and 15m walk from the MRT underground station. There’s a Starbucks just around the corner from the hotel which is handy for a quick breakfast. Food wise there are a lot of options in the Orchard Central mall also a 5 minute walk from hotel. They have a gorgeous roof garden with beautiful views and places to eat and drink.
